About Me

Who am I?

Welcome! I’m David Hoffman, and I currently am an Associate Editor for SPEED SPORT and Producer/Host for the show, Behind the Catch Fence. I went to school at Liberty University studying Digital Media & Journalism. Originally from Pennsylvania, I decided to go into the field of broadcasting & journalism because of a lifelong passion for motorsports and football.

Growing up, going to Minnesota Vikings games and countless IndyCar & NASCAR races are some of my fondest memories. Being around motorsports specifically has fueled my passion because of the family atmosphere and the undeniable craving to hear mechanical beasts whip by you at nearly 200 mph.

Some other passions of mine include running, spending time with my family and being with my three dogs!

SPEED SPORT - Associate Editor

Since 2022, I’ve worked full time at the motorsports publication, SPEED SPORT. The outlet has allowed me to hone my skills in motorsports journalism and curate SPEED SPORT’s website and social media on a daily basis.

As SPEED SPORT’s Associate Editor, I’m tasked with keeping my finger on the pulse of every piece of news across every form of motorsports, from NASCAR, IndyCar, NHRA and Formula 1 to grassroots racing like the World of Outlaws, late model and dirt modified racing.

I write original articles through Wordpress, create sponsored videos and execute the outlet’s daily newsletter campaign.

I’ve had the opportunity to cover NASCAR, NHRA and World of Outlaws events through SPEED SPORT.

2023 NASCAR at Pocono (Pa.)

One of my exclusive stories was with three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, Joey Logano during the NASCAR weekend at Pocono in 2023.

Podcast Producer & Host

With my knowledge and expertise in the digital media field, I developed my own podcast, dedicated to my lifelong passion in motorsports. The podcast, Behind the Catch Fence, immerses motorsports fans into a show that prides itself on giving the best news, bold opinions and exclusive interviews that no other motorsport podcast can offer to the world.

As I’ve been able to refine my skills with each episode, I’ve had the amazing opportunities to interview and talk with some of the best in all of motorsports. Drivers like the legendary likenesses of Mario Andretti, Richard Petty, John Force and Jimmie Johnson to name a few.

Every conversation sheds a unique perspective on these athletes that spotlights them as individuals outside their element, and goes deeper into the person that they are.

It’s also given me the opportunity to cover races in-person over the years, including IndyCar, NHRA and World of Outlaws races.

The podcast is the perfect platform for me to get real life experience in what my true passion is.

As of November 2024, the show surpassed 1,000 subscribers on YouTube.

2024 NHRA Finals (Pomona, Calif.)

During the NHRA Finals, I interview Funny Car driver Austin Prock prior to clinching his first career championship.

Liberty University

At Liberty University, I’ve been able to hone my skills in the Digital Media realm in a variety of ways, including becoming proficient in Adobe products like Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Audition, InDesign and After Effects. With those skills, I’ve been able to use them to create countless projects and content that will be beneficial for me in the future.

Not only has Liberty provided me these skills, I’ve also had many unique opportunities to allow me to further my career. Running 90.9 FM The Light’s X (formerly Twitter) page during Liberty Football & Basketball games is just one of those experiences. During games I create graphics and tweet out live updates to keep the audience in tune with what’s going on. After each game, I compile information from the event and put together a one minute update to put out on-air and social media, recapping the game.

At 90.9 FM The Light, I immersed myself in live on-air production, which have included operating audio boards, hosting talk shows, and calling games as a play-by-play announcer. When it came to hosting talk shows, it was crucial to communicate with co-hosts and guests about the run-down of the show, when we were taking breaks and making sure everyone was well prepared.

Sports television production is another aspect that I am well-rounded in. Through the Liberty Flames Sports Network (LFSN) on campus, I’ve been able to learn a variety of positions extensively, including play-by-play, reporter, analyst, producer, and camera operator. Through LFSN, I’ve had the opportunity to broadcast collegiate hockey, field hockey, soccer, and lacrosse. LFSN has also prepared me with in-studio production, whether it be in the control room or operating cameras.
